Dense packing on uniform lattices

چکیده
We study the Hard Core Model on the graphs G obtained from Archimedean tilings i.e. configurations in {0,1} with the nearest neighbor 1’s forbidden. Our particular aim in choosing these graphs is to obtain insight to the geometry of the densest packings in a uniform discrete set-up. We establish density bounds, optimal configurations reaching them in all cases, and introduce a probabilistic cellular automaton that generates the legal configurations. Its rule involves a parameter which can be naturally characterized as packing pressure. It can have a critical value but from packing point of view just as interesting are the noncritical cases. These phenomena are related to the exponential size of the set of densest packings and more specifically whether these packings are maximally symmetric, simple laminated or essentially random packings.

Random Ensembles of Lattices from Generalized Reductions
We propose a general framework to study constructions of Euclidean lattices from linear codes over finite fields. In particular, we prove general conditions for an ensemble constructed using linear codes to contain dense lattices (i.e., with packing density comparable to the Minkowski-Hlawka lower bound). Specializing to number field lattices, we obtain a number of interesting corollaries for i...
متن کاملOn the construction of dense lattices with a given automorphism group
We consider the problem of constructing dense lattices of Rn with a given non trivial automorphism group. We exhibit a family of such lattices of density at least cn2−n, which matches, up to a multiplicative constant, the best known density of a lattice packing. For an infinite sequence of dimensions n, we exhibit a finite set of lattices that come with an automorphism group of size n, and a co...

Let (L,Q) be an even unimodular lattice, so L is a free Z-module of rank n, and Q : L → Z a positive definite regular integral quadratic form. Then L can be embedded into Euclidean n-space (R, (, )) with bilinear form defined by (x, y) := Q(x + y) − Q(x) − Q(y) and L defines a lattice sphere packing, whose density measures its error correcting properties. One of the main goals in lattice theory...
متن کاملOptimization of Lattices for Quantization
A training algorithm for the design of lattices for vector quantization is presented. The algorithm uses a steepest descent method to adjust a generator matrix, in the search for a lattice whose Voronoi regions have minimal normalized second moment. The numerical elements of the found generator matrices are interpreted and translated into exact values. Experiments show that the algorithm is sta...
